SUMMARY:Beat the Heat: Sunday
DESCRIPTION:Escape the heat with music at this free indoor music fest! Experience how culture influences music—and vice versa—as three diverse musical genres perform under one (air conditioned) roof. From bluegrass vibes\, to cool jazz tunes\, to salsa rhythms you can’t help but dance to\, enjoy these energizing live bands throughout the day. In between sets\, explore the Museum on a scavenger hunt to earn prizes\, or enjoy some cider tasting with New England Cider Company. Don’t forget to visit the on-site food truck for a relaxing picnic break! Open to the public\, all ages welcome. \n\nAccessibility Notice: The elevator that connects our auditorium wing to the rest of our building is currently out of order. Individuals using wheelchairs and/or unable to climb stairs will be able to enter the Museum using the auditorium lobby entrance. The concerts will be accessible via this entrance. To access the accessible bathroom and exhibitions\, the stair-free route will require exiting the building and re-entering through the courtyard. Staff will be available to assist with this process. We deeply apologize for this inconvenience. DESCRIPTION:The Inspire Center brings history and problem-solving together in a hands-on creative space for visitors of all ages! Look closely at objects from the Connecticut Museum collection\, get inspired\, and work together to create something new. With objects and themes changing monthly\, you can enjoy unique experiences all year long! August’s challenge is to invent a new way to see in the dark. \nFor more information about this space\, please visit the Inspire Center webpage. Through the end of August\, the Inspire Center is open Fridays\, Saturdays and Sundays! These expanded hours are sponsored by CREC Museum Academy.  \nThe Inspire Center is included with Museum admission\, which is free the first weekend of the month! DESCRIPTION:Join us for a special English-Spanish bilingual family story time with Linda Montanez from the Hartford Public Library! Surrounded by books in the exhibit Connecticut’s Bookshelf\, families will cozy up in beanbags\, listen to a story\, and then do some crafts! With a new book each time\, families can discover the many stories brought to life by Connecticut authors\, illustrators\, and storytellers. \nThis program falls on Free First Weekend\, which includes free admission to the museum for all ages and occurs the first Saturday and Sunday of every month. This program is great for children ages 6 and under – no pre-registration required. Questions?
