SUMMARY:A Bug's Life: Growing Up at the Movies
DESCRIPTION:We asked you to vote for your favorite childhood movies and we’re showing the winners on Tuesday afternoons in July. Movies are free with admission. Popcorn provided. \nFor Millennials\, the winner was A Bug’s Life (1998). It is just like you remember it –the story focuses on a colony of ants who seasonally gather food for themselves and a wild gang of rowdy grasshoppers. When bumbling worker ant Flik (David Foley) destroys the food supply\, the angry grasshoppers\, lead by the maniacally warped Hopper (Kevin Spacey)\, threaten to kill the ants if they don’t produce a new supply of food by the time they return — an impossible feat. Flik leaves the anthill in search of help in the form of bigger bugs\, and to wage war against the grasshoppers. What he doesn’t know is he has actually discovered a group of down-on-their-luck traveling circus insects in need of a job. When the ants realize that their heroes are really circus performers (and the circus bugs realize these grasshoppers are really big and mean)\, the situation goes from bad to worse. Watch it again! \nRated G. \n

SUMMARY:The Love Bug: Growing Up at the Movies
DESCRIPTION:We asked you to vote for your favorite childhood movies and we’re showing the winners on Tuesday afternoons in July. Movies are free with admission. Popcorn provided. \nFor the Baby Boomers\, the winner was The Love Bug (1968). It is just like you remember it –the “star” is Herbie\, a lovable little Volkswagen with a personality all its own. Abused by a bad guy race-car driver (David Tomlinson)\, Herbie is rescued by a good guy racer (Dean Jones). Out of gratitude\, Herbie enables the luckless good guy to win one race after another. The real fun begins when the ruthless hot-rodder connives to get Herbie back through fair means or foul. Watch it again with your kids and grandkids! \nRated G. \n

SUMMARY:Collecting Day for Growing Up in Connecticut
DESCRIPTION:“What was it like when you were a kid?” \nWe’re collecting objects\, images\, and stories about growing up in Connecticut. We’ve got an online gallery and an upcoming exhibit that will explore four generations of childhood (born between 1930s–90s). We need your help! \nFor the collecting day\, we are collecting objects\, images\, and stories for our upcoming exhibit\, Growing Up in Connecticut. We’re asking people to bring toys\, photographs\, clothes\, home movies\, and other treasures from their childhood and teenage years. All objects will be accepted as loans to the CMCH to be considered for inclusion in the exhibit (not all objects will ultimately be included in the exhibit). People who drop off an object will have the option to share stories behind the object (i.e. why the object was important to them growing up). Stories will be filmed and shared on the exhibit website and/or in the physical exhibit. The exhibit will run May 23 – October 8\, 2016. \nBringing an object for loan to the exhibit gets you free admission to the museum for the day! \nWFSB 3 Connecticut
