SUMMARY:Lunch and Learn - Navigating the Creation of Our Nation
DESCRIPTION:Virtual Presentation!\nThe years before\, during\, and after the Revolutionary War were a time of transformation. In this virtual presentation\, historian Elizabeth Normen will discuss her new book\, Awakenings and Revolutions: The Harts\, Saybrook\, and the New Nation.  Elizabeth will talk about how one colonial Connecticut family navigated the times—from the pulpit to the battlefield; from the high seas to the town square. \nJoin us for this virtual presentation as Elizabeth touches on how her new book came to be and answers the question she’s often asked: What surprised you the most in your research? \nThis virtual event is free and open to the public. Get tickets to receive the Zoom link. \nQuestions? Contact Jen Busa\, Public Programs Coordinator at jbusa@connecticutmuseum.org. \nGET TICKETS\n  \nThank you to our series sponsors Camille and Gregory F. Servodidio! \nAbout the Speaker: Elizabeth Normen is co-founder and publisher emeritus of Connecticut Explored\, the magazine of Connecticut history. A 20-year veteran of the public history field\, she has won awards for African American Connecticut Explored (Wesleyan University Press\, 2014)\, Where I Live: Connecticut for grade 3\, and Venture Smith’s Colonial Connecticut for grades 5 and up. New this year is Awakenings & Revolutions: The Harts\, Saybrook\, and the New Nation\, commissioned by the Old Saybrook Historical Society to celebrate America 250. She currently has stories in the summer issue of Connecticut Explored (“In Need of the Assistance of My Country: A Revolutionary War Story”)\, and Estuary magazine (“The Connecticut River and the American Revolution.”) \nElizabeth’s book\, Awakenings and Revolutions: The Harts\, Saybrook\, and the New Nation\, was published in February 2026.
