We’ve partnered with the Public History Program at CCSU to produce “Rebuild via Homerun: Baseball in Connecticut\,” a look at Connecticut’s long history with baseball\, from the Dark Blues to the Yard Goats. Galleries open from 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm! \n$15 CMCH members\, $20 non-members. Complimentary snacks\, wine\, beer and soft drinks included. \nTICKETS AVAILABLE ONLINE UNTIL 5 PM\, then available at the door beginning at 6:45 pm on the night of the performance. \nABOUT SPEAK UP\nSpeak Up is a Hartford-based storytelling organization that seeks to promote the art of personal storytelling to a wide audience and build a community of storytellers in Connecticut. Speak Up brings professional and amateur storytellers to stage to share true stories from their lives. Speak Up founders and producers Matthew and Elysha Dicks work closely with storytellers to help them craft their stories for the stage and teach storytelling workshops to storytellers at all levels. \nSpeak Up storytelling shows feature 6-8 storytellers who tell true stories from their lives on a predetermined theme. Shows showcase a blend of seasoned storytellers and people telling stories for the first time. Stories are 6-8 minutes in length. This is a workshop designed for a wide range of people\, including those with little or no previous storytelling experience. \nWhile many workshop graduates have gone on to tell stories on stage for Speak Up\, The Moth\, and other storytelling organizations\, most students take this beginner-level workshop with little or no desire to ever take the stage. They want to learn about storytelling for personal and professional development\, to meet new people\, to improve communication skills\, to develop their writing ability\, to challenge themselves\, to finally get the attention of grandchildren\, colleagues\, or that special someone\, or to simply try something new. \nIncluded in this workshop will be:\n• Methods for identifying the stories from your life that are best to tell and creating a system by which these stories can continue to be found and collected long after the workshop is finished\n• Effective framing of a story\n• Development of a strong\, well defined arc\n• Implementation of stakes\n• Permissible\, recommended “lies” of storytelling\n• The importance and inclusion of cinema in storytelling\n• The strategic use of humor in storytelling \nThis is a no-risk\, low stakes introduction to storytelling that does not require students to tell stories or even speak if that’s what they prefer.
