DESCRIPTION:Handmade books are meaningful works of art with a rich history. Dive into the wonderful world of bookmaking with this introductory level class where you will learn the vocabulary\, history\, and know-how of binding books\, and create a beautiful hand-bound journal\, perfect for recording your summer adventures. \nIn this project\, you will create cover and interiors for an accordion style book journal\, complete with a ribbon\, leather\, or buttoned closure. By the end of the class\, you will have completed your own handmade journal to take home! \nMaterials will be provided; however\, patrons are encouraged to bring any scrapbooking paper\, drawings\, or paintings they wish to use for their book’s cover. Suitable for ages 16 and up. Pre-registration is required.  \nQuestions? Our new “Ground Rules” series will pair a guided tour of the exhibition with a chance to meet a local coffee professional\, learn about their craft\, and taste their products. \nJoin us for a guided tour of the exhibition\, then get to meet the folks from 88 Coffee Company. 88 Coffee is passionate about bringing people the authentic taste of Vietnamese coffee. You’ll learn about how they source and prepare their beans\, and how they brew using the Vietnamese phin drip method. DESCRIPTION:Curious about the art of stained-glass? Join us for an introductory level workshop with local stained glass and restoration artist Francis Barkyoumb of Glass Dance Studio. Francis will guide you through the step-by-step process of stained-glass. The workshop will provide you with a pre-cut glass pattern that you will learn to foil and solder. By the end of the class\, you will have completed your own colorful summer-themed stained-glass suncatcher for window or garden to take home! \nFrancis Barkyoumb has been a stained-glass artist since 2009 and began teaching the art form in 2012. Cultural heritage art forms create and reflect meaning\, identity\, and community\, but we can become overly focused on cultural differences\, or else assume that there is a universal artistic language. But what if we can dig into—and challenge—both perspectives? In this series\, we bring together traditional artists who practice art forms rooted in different cultural traditions to demonstrate their work\, share with one another\, and discuss their similarities and differences. This conversation will feature tabla player Bailey O’Donnell and bomba drummer Brendaliz Cepeda\, as they discuss and demonstrate their drum traditions with one another and with audience members.
