DESCRIPTION:Virtual Presentation!\nIn this virtual presentation\, historian Jeffrey A. Denman will discuss John Quincy Adams’ background and experiences in politics beginning with the administration of George Washington. This talk will include the Amistad affair as it pertains to Connecticut\, and John Quincy Adams’ arguments in front of the Supreme Court resulting in the freeing of the captives. Denman is the author of John Quincy Adams\, Reluctant Abolitionist. He is the co-author of Greene and Cornwallis: The Pivotal Struggle of the American Revolution\, 1780-1781.  His research focuses primarily on the late eighteenth century and early nineteenth centuries in American history.  Jeff is a graduate of the University of Maine and the University of Connecticut and is a retired teacher of American History and World Geography in the Brookline Public Schools\, Brookline\, Massachusetts. Join us for a special showing of Ferdinand\, a story of how a gentle\, flower-loving bull finds himself wrapped up in many misadventures after refusing to compete in bullfighting. Watch as Ferdinand makes friends with loving humans\, trouble-making hedgehogs\, and even a goofy goat along the way! \nFamilies are encouraged to bring pillows and blankets and wear their comfiest footy pajamas! Former State Representative Pat Wilson Pheanious\, Chair of the Board of Directors of the Witness Stones Project\, Inc.\, shares her family’s story in Connecticut Public’s new series Unforgotten: Connecticut’s Hidden History of Slavery; Akeia de Barros Gomes\, Senior Curator of Maritime Social Histories at the Mystic Seaport Museum previews the upcoming exhibition Entwined: Freedom\, Sovereignty and the Sea; and Pulitzer Prize-winning author David Blight discusses the new book Yale and Slavery: A History.
