SUMMARY:Family Fun: Celebrating America250 at the Museum
DESCRIPTION:How are you celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States? Watching fireworks? Visiting museums? Going to a family picnic? Stop by the Connecticut Museum and decorate a picture frame to showcase photos of these special memories! The fun continues in the Inspire Center\, a hands-on\, creative space for all ages. People have been using medals\, statues\, and even souvenir plates as way to honor important moments throughout history. Using inspiration from items in the Museum’s collection\, families can design a new way to celebrate their own special event. \nWhile visiting\, families can also check out our new exhibits Drawn Here: Stories of Hartford’s North End and Rebellious\, explorations of moments of change throughout Connecticut history. \nFamilies can continue the learning at home with a Family Activity Kit\, a take-home bag full of activities\, crafts\, and images of items from the museum’s collection. In celebration of America250\, these kits explore journeys of immigrant families moving to Connecticut throughout history\, celebrate individual family history\, and highlight the importance of community. \nMuseum admission and participation in the above activities are FREE. Questions? Contact Katerina Tamburrino\, Family Programs Manager & Accessibility Coordinator\, at ktamburrino@connecticutmuseum.org or call 860-236-5621 x222.

SUMMARY:Tavern Talks
DESCRIPTION:The dozens of tavern signs in our Auditorium once hung over busy public spaces where Connecticans ate\, drank\, slept\, argued\, celebrated\, gambled\, danced\, and courted. \nOn Tuesday afternoons this summer\, drop in for a gallery talk about tavern life in early Connecticut. You’ll learn how to decode the symbolism on some of our most inscrutable signs\, and about why so few of these once-ubiquitous items have survived until today. \nThis gallery talk is included in regular museum admission. There’s no need to pre-register! \nQuestions? Contact Natalie Belanger\, Public Programs Manager\, at nbelanger@connecticutmuseum.org.
