On November 11 each year\, countries around the world commemorate November 11 as Armistice Day\, Remembrance Day\, and Veteran’s Day\, to remember the sacrifices made by men and women in World War I\, and those who have served in the military in the past and today. \nLearn about the history of these holidays at Free First Saturday on November 3. Kids and families can create a unique poppy pin\, and make a card or postcard to send to military service members from Connecticut who are deployed around the world. DESCRIPTION:Join us as we learn about Sergeant Stubby\, the most decorated dog of World War I\, and other animal heroes from Connecticut! Discover the story of Stubby\, the stray dog from New Haven who accompanied the Yankee Division into battle during World War I\, and meet a working Military Police dog who carries on Stubby’s legacy today. \nFrom 10:00 am – 1:00 pm\, visit with a Connecticut military working dog and its handler from the 928th Military Police Working Dog Detachment\, and learn about the important work that military working dogs do today. A drop-in animal-themed craft will be also be available for kids to make and take home. \nFrom 10:30 am – 12:00 pm\, the feature film Sgt. Stubby: An American Hero will be showing in the auditorium. This movie is based on the incredible true story of America’s most decorated dog. Send a secret message using the Victorian language of flowers or the modern day language of emojis! Kids can also make a Victorian flower bookmark or an emoji stress ball. \nFamily Adventure Days are a great way to escape the summer heat and explore the museum with your family. Drop in during the morning or afternoon for fun activities\, crafts\, and more. \nThese family programs are geared for children ages 7-11\, siblings are welcome.
