DESCRIPTION:Curious about the art of stained-glass? Join us for an introductory level workshop with local stained glass and restoration artist Francis Barkyoumb of Glass Dance Studio. Francis will guide you through the step-by-step process of stained-glass. The workshop will provide you with a pre-cut glass pattern that you will learn to foil and solder. By the end of the class\, you will have completed your own colorful summer-themed stained-glass suncatcher for window or garden to take home! \nFrancis Barkyoumb has been a stained-glass artist since 2009 and began teaching the art form in 2012. In 2022\, Francis opened Glass Dance Studio in Branford\, Connecticut\, where he creates custom pieces of art\, restores panels and heirlooms\, and offers classes. \nThis workshop will be structured for the beginner\, but all levels of expertise are encouraged to register! Dive into the wonderful world of bookmaking with this introductory level class where you will learn the vocabulary\, history\, and know-how of binding books\, and create a beautiful hand-bound journal\, perfect for recording your summer adventures. \nIn this project\, you will create cover and interiors for an accordion style book journal\, complete with a ribbon\, leather\, or buttoned closure. By the end of the class\, you will have completed your own handmade journal to take home! \nMaterials will be provided; however\, patrons are encouraged to bring any scrapbooking paper\, drawings\, or paintings they wish to use for their book’s cover. Bomba de Aquí is a dance and music company that performs and teaches Afro-Puerto Rican traditions in throughout western Massachusetts and central Connecticut area. In this interactive workshop\, they will educate participants about the history of Afro-Puerto Rican music\, foster understanding of the richness of Puerto Rican arts\, and most importantly encourage attendees to join in with dancing and drumming. DESCRIPTION:Current SNEAP Mentor and Master Calligrapher\, Dr. Jun Lin\, will guide participants in the art of Chinese Calligraphy. Dr. Lin will present an overview of Chinese calligraphy\, give a demonstration\, and show examples of his work. As a class\, he will instruct students in creating their own pieces. No experience needed; all skill levels welcome. All materials will be provided. \nDr. Lin is a tenured professor at SUNY-New Paltz. He has studied Chinese Calligraphy since age five and has practiced the art under the guidance of renowned calligraphers in China. DESCRIPTION:Celebrate spring with sparkle from Candlelight Jewelry and friends! Come and find paintings\, mosaics\, traditional crafts\, handmade jewelry and more at this special pop-up market\, featuring Ukrainian and Ukrainian-American artists from Greater Hartford and beyond! \nNote on payment: Artists accept cash (preferred)\, check\, Venmo\, and PayPal. \n  \nFeatured artists include: \nFelix Freudzon is a figurative and portrait artist based in West Hartford\, CT\, who specializes in re-imagining classical art styles. \nVictoria Starzef is a mosaic artist from Glastonbury\, CT\, who finds inspiration in cats\, dogs\, traveling\, and nature. Her background in oil painting and ceramics has given her a unique frame of reference to approach glass mosaicking. \nIrina Hizhytsa makes Ukrainian-American dolls. She studied with Slavic doll master artist Natalia Ledomskaya\, whose work attracted her heart and soul. Made with care from knitted fiber and macrame\, she has also studied with Alla Popova and is expanding her doll-making adventure to include plastic. For Irina\, dolls brim with energy and positivity\, and all of them are assistants in everyday life. \nCandlelight Jewelry’s selection of imported folk art and fine art from the Ukrainian School of Art for Children and other Ukrainian artists\, including: \nNicolas Zalevsky\, based in Farmington CT\, a painter whose works evoke surrealism\, magic realism\, and photorealism. Educated at the Ukrainian Academy of Printing and the Shevchenko State Art School\, his work has been recognized and exhibited locally and internationally. \nLuba Kuper\, a candlemaker specializing in natural beeswax candles. Beyond decoration\, these candles are a source of light\, peace\, and positive energy\, and each one is crafted with great love and care for the environment. \nYelena Kirshon\, a jewelry-maker and painter whose first experiences with art were in the Ukrainian School of Art for children\, learning the techniques of painting traditional Ukrainian flowers\, “Petrivcky rospusu.” She works as an art teacher in two retirement communities in West Hartford\, and she regularly organizes art markets to benefit the Ukrainian School of Art for children. \nSee more at https://www.etsy.com/shop/CandlelightJewelry.
