Coffee Hour with CMCH: Let’s Talk Hepburn

April 3, 2020 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Screen icon Katharine Hepburn was a lifelong Connectican. For our first online Coffee Hour, we’re going to discuss Kate the Great’s life and movies, and show you a few of the Hepburn items in our collection. In addition, our staff will be baking batches of her famous brownies at home, and we invite you to do the same!

The recipe is printed below, but click here to read a fantastic account of one woman’s encounter with Ms. Hepburn and how she got a hold of the recipe.

All you need to join us is a device (laptop, desktop, smartphone or tablet) with an internet connection. You’ll receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting. Click here to register.

We’re offering this program for free, but if you would like to make a donation to help the CMCH keep history alive through this difficult time, please click here.

Questions? Contact Natalie Belanger, Adult Programs Manager, at natalie_belanger@chs.org.

KATHARINE HEPBURN’S BROWNIES

1/2 cup cocoa

1 stick butter

2 eggs

1 cup sugar

1/4 cup flour

1 cup broken-up walnuts or pecans

1 teaspoon vanilla

pinch of salt

Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Melt butter in saucepan with cocoa and stir until smooth. Remove from heat and allow to cool for a few minutes. Mix in eggs, one at a time. Add sugar, flour, nuts, vanilla and salt. Pour into a greased 8×8 square pan. Bake 40 minutes. ”Don’t overbake!” They should be gooey. Let cool (an essential step) and cut into bars.
