Preparing a Request
Identify what you would like to borrow. Parts of our collections are available online at eMuseum, HistoryCat, or Connecticut Digital Archive.
If you don’t know which item or items from our collection will meet your needs, just ask us! Contact Molly Woods, Registrar, via email or by phone at 860-236-5621 x 259.
Information to Include in Your Request
- Exhibition venue name and address
- Opening and closing dates
- Contact person’s name, email address, and telephone number
- Titles and accession numbers of items you wish to borrow
- How these items fit into the context of your exhibition or display
- How you will be displaying these items
How to Submit a Request
Several months before the expected start date of the exhibition or program, submit a request letter containing the above information, and your institution’s American Alliance of Museums Facility Report, to Molly Woods, Registrar, by email or via mail at:
Connecticut Museum of Culture and History
One Elizabeth Street
Hartford, CT 06105
If you do not have a facility report on file, you will need to fill out a blank one (available here). If you are unsure about how to fill it out, let us know and we may be able to help you.
Next Steps
The letter and facility report will be sent to the Collections Steering Committee, an advisory committee to the Chief Executive Officer and CMCH staff, for their approval.
Once the loan is approved, the borrowing institution must sign an Outgoing Loan Agreement and submit a Certificate of Insurance providing wall-to-wall coverage of the item(s) for the duration of the loan.
The borrower will assume costs related to transporting the item(s) from the CMCH to the exhibition venue.
