The Accounting Manager is responsible for all accounting and business-related activities of the Connecticut Museum of Culture and History. The incumbent will assist in the preparation of various financial reports and provide support for various human resource activities and responsibilities. The Accounting Manager may also supervise staff in the business office.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Continual oversight of all Museum accounting activities including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, deposits, bank reconciliations and other related tasks;
- Prepare journal entries as required to ensure timely month and year end closings;
- Track the cash position and cash flow on a daily basis;
- Be responsible for the prompt depositing of funds received;
- Assist the Senior Director of Accounting in the preparation of the annual budget;
- Assist the Senior Director of Accounting in preparation for the annual audit and serve as a liaison to outside auditors;
- Provide the Senior Director of Accounting, department heads, and finance committee with financial data relevant to the preparation of grant proposals;
- Prepare and distribute monthly financial reports for department heads;
- Assist in the administration of the Museum retirement plan;
- Maintain the security of the Museum financial records, credit cards, and petty cash;
- Supervise, cross-train, and serve as back-up to other Business Office staff, including payroll and accounts payable, as needed;
- Oversee the preparation and filing of various Federal, State, and local tax filings;
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications: The Accounting Manager should be an experienced, hands-on individual with a proven track record in a full charge role. Experience in a non-profit organization is desirable. Specific qualifications include:
- BA or BS in Accounting, Business, or related field; or a combination of various work experiences equal to at least seven years of progressively increasing responsibilities;
- An ability to manage multiple priorities, while not losing sight of time-sensitive tasks;
- A keen mind for numbers, as demonstrated by experience and/or education;
- Superior computer skills and a willingness to initiate systems improvements;
- Fund and grant accounting experience;
- Ability to effectively communicate, verbally and in writing, with a variety of constituencies, including vendors, funding sources, outside contractors, museum Board Members, and fellow staff;
- Experience with Blackbaud’s Financial Edge NXT software a plus;
- Focused attention to detail, coupled with an ability to respond to deadlines;
- Ability to work in a team environment;
- Willingness to be flexible to change.
Compensation
$32.00-$38.00 per hour.

Schedule
Part time, 25 hours per week (four days per week), on-site in Hartford, CT.
