Internship Description:

The Marketing & Communications Intern will support the communications needs of the Connecticut Museum of Culture and History. The role resides in the Advancement Department and reports to the Marketing & Communications Manager and the Chief Advancement Officer. The intern’s primary focus will be on content production and distribution of digital communications working across the Museum’s digital platforms, including social channels, e-newsletters, and the website.  This hand-on role coordinates the updating of ongoing posts, videos, and other digital content. Further, the role supports the organization’s print communications efforts to help promote the Museum’s programs, exhibitions, and brand across the state.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The incumbent’s specific duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Creating posts and updates to the Museum’s social media including Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube;
  • Updating content on the Museum’s website;
  • Preparing and sending marketing e-blasts to the Museum’s mailing list;
  • Content layout and design of a quarterly printed mailer;
  • Creation of Museum promotional flyers;
  • Monitoring a master advertising traffic calendar and creating advertising deliverables;
  • Updating content to post on external digital calendars; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

The incumbent should have experience in marketing, communications, or journalism. This summer internship requires excellent writing and proofreading, verbal, interpersonal, and computer skills. An appreciation of history and the cultural landscape of Connecticut is a plus.

The ideal candidate qualifications include: 

  • Preference for a student seeking a marketing, communications, or journalism degree;
  • Experience at student-led media organizations;
  • Experience preferred with desktop publishing such as WordPress, Constant Contact, and Adobe Creative Suite;
  • Experience with social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram and YouTube);
  • Excellent organizational, project and time management skills;
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills;
  • The ability to work independently, also with individuals and groups;
  • Excellent proof-reading skills;
  • Ability to manage various projects and meet deadlines;
  • Self-motivated, friendly, and curious;
  • Exhibit proven reliability and trustworthiness;
  • Positive demeanor;
  • Access to transportation for in-office work.

Schedule and Location

28 hours per week. Tuesday-Thursday, 9 am – 5 pm in-office in Hartford, CT, plus one day remotely. Mid-May through mid-August.

Compensation

$17.00 per hour (estimated $6,188 gross for the season)
